Many nail salons use ultraviolet lamps to dry nails. They use the same hazardous rays as a tanning beds. A new study shows that it would take many manicure for these lamps to cause damage. This event relates to my biology class that I took last year. In biology, we learned a little about what cancer is and the treatment that most people have to go through. I feel that this event is kind of scary in a way since I like to get my nails done. I've dried my nails in an ultraviolet lamp before and it's crazy how this can raise your risk of getting cancer. This event affects me greatly because I like to get my nails done once in a while. Now that I know that these lamps can raise the risk of cancer, I'm more cautious of not getting my nails done a lot.

The author supports his claim by using many quotes from trustworthy people to defend his position. He used quotes that scientists and researchers said about this subject. The author does think ultraviolet lamp raises cancer risk. He thinks that manicurist that use the lamp daily "may be exposed to an abundance of UV-A radiation, much more than the average customer" (FoxNews). Many people might think that the risk of getting cancer from the lamps are low, but the author let people know that "Shipp's team endorsed the idea of wearing sunscreen to protect hands from UV damage" (FoxNews). The author shows his concerns that these lamps might cause cancer and even if the risk is low, people should still have caution.
