In Cincinnati, there were children that were rescued by a sister's email asking for help to a teacher after they were beaten and tied to their bed. This email led the teacher to call 911. After the investigation with the police and the children services authorities, they arrested the girl's mother, grandmother and grandmother. The 44 year old man was charged with raping his stepdaughters, 9 and 11, and abusing their 8 year old brother, said the police. The children later told the authorities that they were tied with ropes and chains for weeks, and only sometimes were untied to do homework. They were forced to take their clothes off to be hit with belts and paddles. They had marks and scars as evidence. The children said that they were sometime allowed to eat and that they were really hungry. The authorities said that they didn't look overly malnourished.  The children's father denied the accusations and the other adults said it was punishment for stealing food.
This article doesn't really connect with one of my classes. The only class I can think of is my English class. I think this article connects with my English class because Ms. Payseur talked about an event that was happening to the kids in Africa. They were torturing these kids because they thought they were witches. My event and the one in Africa connect because they're about innocent children getting tortured and these events are happening around the world.

I feel that this event is wrong. Children's shouldn't be tortured. If children are bad, there are punishments or ways that they can learn not to be bad; that doesn't involve beaten their children and leaving scars and marks on them. This affects me because there are many kids around me that are passing through the same situation. If it weren't for the girl that contacted her teacher, these children would still be stuck in this situation, and people around them wouldn't even know it.

How does the structure of the text refine and support the author’s claim? Use evidence from the selection to support your answer. The passage first starts off with a little summary about the event, then the author tells the readers about the event step by step since the beginning.  The author uses many quotes to support his claim.  In the beginning, the author talked about how the children were tortured and all the investigation. "I'm sure like most kids she trusted in her teacher that she would get her help,"(Associated Press) The author stated the quote and said the possibility of why the girl emailed her teacher. "We don't know if the opportunity was there that maybe no adults were around. Or maybe she just had enough." (Associated Press) Then, the author spoke about the school administration. "Our teachers are extraordinarily dedicated, highly trained, and have special relationships with their students." (Associated Press) Lastly, the author stated how the children are doing now. "They're getting to eat now. They have loving people around them," (Associated Press)
